Wiki for Evaluating Electronic Databases

• The colleges in the Los Rios district cooperate with each other in subscribing to electronic databases. Since so many of our students attend at least two of the colleges at the same time, we want to provide consistent coverage regardless of which college they are attending. Each year, one librarian coordinates the subscription process for the district. This can make evaluation and discussion of the database trials rather tricky.
• This semester, we’re trying an experiment. I’ve created a wiki, where I will post the databases that are on trial. The librarians across the district have been invited to join the wiki and are the only ones who can view the wiki or comment on the databases (if you’d care to look at it, I can send you an invitation also), so we feel we’re not infringing on copyright by posting login information to an open website. The experiment is just beginning, so I really can’t tell you how well it worked, but am hopeful that it will facilitate communication across the district.
